On International Women’s Day 2024, the team at Contura Orthopaedics is keen to celebrate and profile the work and achievements of Dr Sarah Davies, Consultant in Musculoskeletal (MSK), Sport and Exercise Medicine and Founding Partner of Panacea Health.

Dr Davies was also the first female MSK specialist in the UK to have used the innovative and novel treatment for knee #osteoarthritis, #Arthrosamid for her #patients suffering from this often-debilitating condition, in clinic at the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health (ISEH).

Over the years, the stiffness and pain in her right knee have increased to grade 4 arthritis, especially after snapping her ACL and reconstruction surgery whilst ﬁlming Gladiators. 

Frustratingly, this affected her ability to exercise comfortably and enjoy her day-to-day activities. 

After receiving a single dose of 6ml Arthrosamid (2.5% injectable polyacrylamide hydrogel) in September 2022, Sharron has experienced a rapid and positive recovery. We caught up with Sharron and discussed the positive benefits she noticed 16 months after the treatment. 

“The best testimonial I can give is that I am so much less aware of my grade 4 knee arthritis. Every once in a while, my patella tendon gets a little sore especially if I wear my favourite tight jeans! I guess that’s because it’s causing my knee cap to press down on my damaged joint below. So, as much as I hate it, I’m wearing my leggings and baggy ones more. When dealing with arthritis, a degenerative condition that sadly often comes with age and overuse, we all have to find ways to alleviate the pain and maintain our lifestyles.”

on my left knee I knew how painful and long term the commitment to rehab and
recovery would be if I had surgery on my right knee. I was regularly taking
prescribed pain medication and had received steroid treatment with limited
