Sarah Broom, HR Manager passionate about travel and fitness, shares her story about the benefits of Arthrosamid®
HR Manager, Sarah Broom (54) from Surrey (who’s also passionate about fitness - particularly “Bounce”, a trampette-based form of cardio exercise) and travel - shares her story about the benefits of Arthrosamid®
“I was pain-free within days, and it was without a doubt the best money I’ve ever spent”
“I’d always had a problem with my right knee, following an accident in my late teens. I’d undergone several operations over the years, which had seen the deterioration and gradual removal of the cartilage and inevitable onset of osteoarthritis. Whilst living abroad for many years, I’d also been treated fairly regularly with hyaluronic acid (HA) injections which yes, did alleviate the pain and discomfort but only temporarily and I was always aware that the impact of these injections might eventually become less effective. Indeed, when work brought me back to the UK – just before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic – I knew I’d need to explore new treatment options as the pain was recurring and starting to have real impact on my sleep, ability to exercise and overall quality of life. Of course, the unexpected ‘lockdown’ that followed meant that I couldn’t see an orthopaedic consultant for some time – and when I did, my fears were confirmed, and the HA injections no longer seemed to be working for me.
“I’m a very active person, enjoying Bounce and Barbells classes twice a week – and also commute into London 3 days a-week. But exercise and train travel were becoming increasingly difficult and uncomfortable – my office is on the 5th floor and (despite feeling otherwise very fit) there was no way I could climb up (or down) the stairs. I was even using a ‘standing desk’ as sitting down for any period of time was just impossible as I was unable to bend my knee. Work colleagues were sympathetic and aware of my condition – but I still felt too young to undergo the inevitable total knee replacement that seemed my only option at the time. I just didn’t know where to turn….
“The final straw came earlier this year following a long weekend break with my husband to Seville. We walked for miles around the city…but by the last day, I was in agony. It was unbearable and my knee was swollen with very little flexibility and limited mobility. I couldn’t even contemplate walking anymore and spent the day sitting in a park and had to sit down at the airport on my way home, with my leg extended - there was just no ‘bend’ left in my knee.
“So, on my return, I started seriously looking into non-surgical alternatives to help treat the symptoms of knee osteoarthritis, and I came across the Arthrosamid® website. On further research, I decided to contact a local clinic offering the treatment and booked an appointment with Mr James Platt, at the Nuffield Hospital, Woking.
Note: Bounce classes were initially recommended to Sarah as a great exercise option for those with a “bad knee” as there’s far less impact than other traditional cardio classes, on the floor. But, even with her ‘new knee’, Sarah continues with this fun form of fitness!
“Whilst he told me – rather worryingly! - that my knee was “one of the worst he’d ever seen”, he was also very reassuring and positive and, after further assessment, confirmed that I’d be an eligible candidate for Arthrosamid®. I was aware from the outset that there were no guarantees about the efficacy of the injection and the level of pain relief I’d experience (as is this case for any patient) but research showed I had around an 80% of success – so, with odds like that, I was prepared to give it a go! I was also aware that the treatment is sadly not available on the NHS – yet - but I was in the fortunate position of having some savings, and felt they were there for a time like this. And, I can safely say, I don’t regret it for a second. It was the best money I’ve ever spent.
“I had the Arthrosamid injection in March of this year (2025). As anticipated, the procedure was swift (about 15 minutes, following the local anaesthetic). My husband picked me up from the appointment and I worked from home the following day to avoid the train…but within a matter of days, the pain had totally disappeared. I honestly couldn’t believe it – the relief was better than I ever would have imagined. It was transformational.
“I actually felt as though could have returned to my exercise routine immediately, but I followed Mr Platt’s advice and took it easy until my 8-week check-up (although during this time, I was walking to and from the station and up and down the stairs at the stations and at work). And, as I’d hoped, he was delighted with my progress and has effectively “signed me off”.
He even told that it had worked so well, I was what he would call a “super-responder”!
“I know I’m not “cured” from osteoarthritis, and I still have osteophytes (bone spurs) which may cause me some issues – but since my treatment I am pain free, with incredible flexibility in my knee (which I’ve barely experienced since I was 17), back to enjoying exercise, travel, holidays, sleep…and life!
“In fact, Arthrosamid® has been truly life changing for me and I’m gladly recommending to friends, family, colleagues and anyone I know who’s suffering from knee pain. Please don’t delay if you’re considering the treatment – I’m just so glad I discovered it.”
To date, around 17,000 people have been treated with Arthrosamid® - and over 330 clinics worldwide are now offering the treatment.
