Conference season: catching up with the Contura Orthopaedics team at BASK 2026
The Contura Orthopaedics Ltd team was out in force at BASK 2026, the annual meeting of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee, held on 14-15 April at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow. Colleagues from the UK and Denmark joined the two-day conference to connect with healthcare professionals working across knee surgery, research and physiotherapy.
The team met hundreds of delegates at the new Contura exhibition stand. Discussions focused on how clinicians may bridge the knee osteoarthritis treatment gap between short-acting, repeat injections and surgery, including the role of Arthrosamid® as a non-surgical treatment option.
Research, education and the future of knee surgery
From ground-breaking research presentations to in-depth discussions about the future of knee surgery, the BASK 2026 programme brought together surgeons, researchers, physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals. Sessions were designed to support clinical education and help attendees deliver better patient care.
New knee osteoarthritis whitepaper launched at BASK 2026
BASK 2026 also marked the launch of a new white paper commissioned by Contura Orthopaedics Ltd: “Inside the Science: A Major Step Forward for Knee Osteoarthritis”.
The paper explores emerging treatment approaches for knee osteoarthritis and considers how non-surgical options could support patients within the NHS.
Written by national health journalist Adrian Monti, the white paper reviews research into Arthrosamid® and includes perspectives from orthopaedic experts: Professor Martyn Snow, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, Shropshire; Professor Markus Wimmer, Grainger Director of the Rush Arthritis and Orthopaedics Institute in Chicago, USA; and Mr Andrew Miller, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport, South Wales.

BASK 2026 HIT session: bridging the knee osteoarthritis treatment gap
On the second day of the conference, Contura hosted a BASK HIT (High Intensity Teaching) session titled “Bridging the Treatment Gap: Arthrosamid®’s Elasticity-Driven Mode of Action”.
The lunchtime session brought together a full audience to hear from Professor Graeme P. Hopper, Professor Markus A. Wimmer, PhD, and Mr Paul Joseph Jermin.
The speakers covered research into the shear stiffness of equine synovial membrane in osteoarthritis and its response to polyacrylamide hydrogel treatment; a concept study combining sonoelastography and biomechanics to assess Arthrosamid® knee injections; and a review of the clinical results and safety of Arthrosamid®.
