“Contura cares”
Exciting new partnership with patient data collection platform, highlights Contura Orthopaedics ongoing commitment to empowering patient outcomes”
Contura Orthopaedics will be rolling out an updated approach to collating patient outcomes, through a new partnership with software platform, DataBiologics, which will see ‘intuitive software’ offered to clinics across the UK and Canada to enable better evaluation of the effectiveness of Arthrosamid®.

Recording the impact of Arthrosamid® (or PROMS - Patient-Reported Outcome Measures) has always been at the heart of Contura’s ethos and overall business growth strategy. As such, the development of a sophisticated ‘clinic-led’, online system to capture the true patient experience is a natural evolution as the brand expands across Europe (and more recently, Canada, too) along with a growing public awareness of the potential benefits of hydrogel injections for the pain and immobility associated with knee osteoarthritis.
A Data-Driven Tool for Arthrosamid® Clinics
Arthrosamid® is an evidence-based permanent injectable hydrogel implant that delivers long-lasting, proven pain relief for knee osteoarthritis. And now, thanks to the DataBiologics platform, both patients and healthcare professionals will be able to play an active and positive role in objectively demonstrating the impact of Arthrosamid® through a ‘simple-to-use’ software platform designed to track and analyse patient outcomes.
Contura Orthopaedics is also focused on harnessing the feedback of younger patients (aged 55 and under) and who traditionally are less likely to engage in reporting outcomes. So, it’s hoped that the new online initiative will appeal to this patient demographic and bring about a greater potential to capture vitally important outcome data.
Post-treatment, patients will receive a set of standardised surveys (baseline, through to 1, 3, 6,12 months – and every year thereafter up to 5 years) which, in both the long and short term, will lead to better understanding of patient progress and the ability for clinicians to refine and tailor treatment.
As well as adding to clinical research findings, this elevated approach to monitoring and assessing patient outcome will also help healthcare professionals to:
- Track progress post-treatment.
- Personalise treatment plans based on real-time feedback.
- Demonstrate an overall commitment to evidence-based medicine
Diagnosis and treatment information is first entered by the clinic. Patients then complete baseline and follow-up Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) including: the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS), PHQ-4 (4-question mental health screener for anxiety and depression) and Satisfaction.

CEO of Contura Orthopaedics, Rakesh Tailor, says; “Patient and clinician feedback is absolutely vital to us as ‘healthcare innovators and pioneers’. We’ve always been committed to collecting and evaluating data in the most effective way possible – ensuring that we, at Contura Orthopaedics, can utilise and analyse data to inform important research papers and presentations, which we hope will help to influence future policy and funding decisions.
He adds; “Contura Orthopaedics is proud to be sponsoring this voluntary data collection project, which means there is no cost to clinics, therefore encouraging wide participation in this exciting multi-centre initiative to collect outcomes.
“Our growing network of clinics and clinicians using this new platform will also be able to validate Arthrosamid®’s real-world effectiveness in reducing pain and improving function, provide evidence to patients during consultations and differentiate a clinic as a leader in evidence-based care, all through engaging in outcomes tracking.”
