Redefining Joint Care with Unparalleled Innovation: A Global Knee Osteoarthritis Conference Season

Catching Up With the Contura Team Across the Globe During Conference Season
It’s certainly been a busy first half of the year for Contura Orthopaedics – with our team attending no less than eight of the leading orthopaedic conferences across the world. From “pole position” at our newly designed exhibition stand to educational sessions, podium presentations and posters setting out the latest data sets, our team has been at the heart of the conference season.
It started back in January – with the British Patellofemoral Society (BPFS) Annual Meeting in Exeter – and we’ve just rounded up H1 with a visit to EULAR in London from 3rd–6th June.
In between, attendance at some of the major meetings followed with the Contura Orthopaedics Ltd Medical and Marketing Teams attending:
WCO (World Congress on Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases), Prague | 16–19 April
Contura has a strong presence at Congress including a poster viewing session presented by Ali Mobasheri, Professor of Musculoskeletal Physiology, on “Polyacrylamide Hydrogel as an Injectable Synovial Implant: Evidence and Opportunity in Knee Osteoarthritis Management” and a podium presentation by Thomas Klonschinski on “Intraarticular polyacrylamide hydrogel for knee osteoarthritis: 1-year results from the LUNA observational study”.
Isokinetic Conference, Athens | 18–19 April
Mr Andrew Miller gave a presentation at the meeting on the poster “Arthrosamid® Permanent Hydrogel Injections for Knee Osteoarthritis Real World Results and Patient Satisfaction”.
OARSI World Congress, Miami l 23-26 April
OARSI in Miami, USA featured a sponsored educational session run by Dr Ali Mobasheri focusing on “Arthrosamid® – A New Therapeutic Class for Osteoarthritis: Biomechanically Restoring Elasticity of the Synovium”.
Posters were also presented on IDA and ROSA 5-year results, LUNA 1-year study and Restoring the Synovium.
EFORT Annual Congress, Malaga l 4-6 May
EFORT Annual Congress in Malaga, Spain – with two podium presentations:
Scientific Presentations
Mr Philippe Massin: Polyacrylamide Hydrogel for Knee Osteoarthritis: 1-Year Results from the LUNA Observational Study
Mr Andrew Miller: Polyacrylamide Hydrogel for Knee Osteoarthritis: 1-Year Results from the LUNA Observational Study
ESSKA Congress, Prague | 20–22 May
The European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA) on 20th–22nd May, in the city of Prague. The 22nd bi-annual Congress at the O2 Universum made its own history, breaking all previous records for the society, with an attendance of 5,000 registered participants and 95 countries represented.
Conference Spotlight: Launching a New White Paper at BASK 2026 l 14-15 April 2026
A highlight in the calendar was this year’s annual BASK conference with colleagues gathering from the UK and Denmark offices for the pivotal two-day meeting at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow. The team met with hundreds of delegates across the two-day event, with lively and informative discussion taking place on the new Contura exhibition stand around the theme of how clinicians can bridge the gap between short-acting repeat injectables and surgery – with long-lasting knee pain relief via Arthrosamid®.
From ground-breaking research presentations to in-depth discussions on the future of knee surgery, the conference programme aimed to enrich expertise and help HCPs (whether surgeons, researchers or physiotherapists) deliver better care to patients.
Launch of the White Paper: Inside the Science: A Major Step Forward for Knee Osteoarthritis
BASK 2026 (British Association for Surgery of the Knee) also marked the launch of a new white paper entitled Inside the Science: A Major Step Forward for Knee Osteoarthritis commissioned by Contura Orthopaedics Ltd and heralding the dawn of a new era of treatments for knee osteoarthritis (OA) that can offer a viable alternative to surgery on the NHS.
Expert Insights into the Latest Research
The whitepaper authored by leading national health journalist Adrian Monti, and includes an update on the latest research exploring how Arthrosamid® could benefit patients within the NHS with insights from leading KOLs within the orthopaedic sector including Professor Martyn Snow, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, Shropshire; Professor Markus Wimmer, Grainger Director of the Rush Arthritis and Orthopaedics Institute in Chicago (USA); and Mr Andrew Miller, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, South Wales.
BASK HIT Session: Bridging the Treatment Gap
The second day of BASK saw Contura hosting its informative BASK HIT (High Intensity Teaching) session entitled “Bridging the Treatment Gap: Arthrosamid®’s Elasticity-Driven Mode of Action”.
Exploring Arthrosamid®’s Elasticity-Driven Mode of Action
A full house of delegates came together for the lunchtime session to hear key speakers Professor Graeme P. Hopper, Professor Markus A. Wimmer, PhD and Mr Paul Joseph Jermin – covering a range of topics including a study into shear stiffness of equine synovial membrane in osteoarthritis and response to polyacrylamide hydrogel treatment; a concept study integrating sonoelastography and biomechanics to assess the efficacy of Arthrosamid® knee injections; and a review of clinical results and safety of Arthrosamid®.
